Description
Mounting & Positioning¶
Proper orientation is critical to prevent dust from settling in the optical chamber or recirculating within the sensor.
Preferred Orientations:¶
- Vertical: Position the sensor with the inlets and outlet facing downward. This prevents gravity-driven dust accumulation.
- Lateral (Side-mounted): Ensure the inlets are above the outlet to avoid unwanted recirculation of dust from the exhaust back into the intake.
- Horizontal: The green side marked "Sensirion" must face downward toward the ground.
Airflow & Isolation:¶
- Place the sensor as close as possible to the enclosure's outer shell using large openings.
- Isolate it from external airflows exceeding 1 m/s, as high velocities can cause pressure drops that skew readings.
Environmental Protection:¶
- Heat Sources: Avoid placing it near microcontrollers or other heat-generating components. If unavoidable, place the SPS30 below the heat source to prevent rising warm air from affecting it.
- Sunlight: Protect the sensor from direct sunlight to avoid temperature gradients and premature aging.
Mechanical Integrity:¶
- Use firm fixations to prevent vibration noise. You can use acoustic foam or thin rubber between the sensor and its mount to further dampen sound (though its natural emission is already very low, under 25 dB(A))
